Mailing Holiday Cards at Discounted Prices
It is just past the middle of October. Halloween hasn’t even arrived yet, but the time to start thinking about mailing holiday cards, especially if you are a business, is upon us. Today, let’s discuss the who, what, when, where, and why of the process.
Who is on your mail list?
Even if you are a relatively small business, one just starting out, or one with hundreds or thousands of clients, if there is any way to create a mail list that includes 200 or more names, we highly recommend doing so. Not all of the people or businesses on your mail list need to be current clients. They could include current clients, potential clients, and also those people who helped to get you where you are today. Perhaps you had ten people who really helped you to get started on this path: mail to them! They would love to hear from you and to see how your business is doing. If you have a mail list a mile long, consider mailing to your top 300 or 500 clients as a way to thank them for being a top client.
What should be included on a holiday card?
The sky is truly the limit. If you want to lean more heavily into the religious part of a season, please do! Focus on something fun and carefree? Yes. The underlying meaning of sending these cards out is to express thankfulness for clients, so they know you view them as important. You can also include a value added to a service or product they already purchase. As the year is wrapping up, we all like to bolster our sales. Add a free keychain, small lotion, or free eyebrow wax with the purchase of something else.
Unsure of the best sizing for a card? You can do traditional cards with a foldover card and envelope or a postcard instead! Sizing can range from 4”x6” up to 6”x9”. Envelopes can be small, medium, or large, so if there is a certain size you’re looking for, we can make it happen.
When is the best time to send out?
Holiday cards can be sent out at almost any time, and it doesn’t even need to be the end of the year. If your business has something that connects it to a certain holiday, really lean into that. Thanksgiving is around the corner, so cards that express gratitude are always great. Christmas cards tend to get people in the gift-giving, joyful holiday spirit. New Year’s cards leave people excited for the New Year. But you could send out for Easter, St. Patrick’s, 4th of July, or wherever you see fit.
Where should you get these holiday cards designed, printed, and mailed?
We absolutely believe you should send these holiday cards out with PSS Mailing Solutions. With any mail list over 200 pieces, you can receive massive postage discounts from the USPS. For holiday cards specifically, any business can mail at standard postage rates, and non-profits can continue to mail at non-profit rates.
What does that mean? Instead of paying $.82 per piece with a stamp, you pay closer to $.43 per piece at those standard rates (dependent on mail list and zip code locations).
Need help coming up with a design? We work hand-in-hand with Dimensional Graphics, a graphic design and print company, so we can design exactly what you need. By working together, we can come up with the design you like, print, and mail it out directly from here, using the United States Post Office, to the people and businesses you want to contact!
Why should you even mail holiday cards?
From a marketing standpoint, this is a wonderful way to create a touch with either a business or individual you are already in contact with or one with whom you would like to get to know. If you already have a client whom you have worked with, it is always a treat to get a fun, meaningful card in the mail. It puts your business top of mind and if something else comes up where they need your services or products again, they are more likely to think of you. For potential clients, the number of touches it takes to reach someone seems to keep climbing, especially when the cost of your services or products is on the higher end. A simple holiday card or postcard is just another way to get your name in the mouths of those you’d like to get to know.
Whether you are a large or small company, sending holiday cards to people who matter to you is a great way to spread holiday cheer and capture the attention of your audience.
