Postage Discounts

Postage Discounts are one of the top reasons for any business, corporation, or organization to use a mail service provider. Postal rates continue to rise every year, sometimes even twice in a year. However, postage discounts and promotions are available through the United States Post Office. How do you know which discounts may apply to what you are sending? That’s where we come in!

As a mail service provider, we know the options available for you, and after a consultation, we will have information needed to find the biggest and best discounts for your pieces. The simplest discount for most mailers is a presorted discount – batches as low as 200 pieces can receive a barcode, and with that barcode, comes a massive drop in price. Depending on the quantity within the order, you may also qualify for palletization discounts.

If you are a non-profit organization registered with the USPS, the discounts just keep increasing. Watching your price-per-piece drop from $.82 to as low as $.164 is a breath of fresh air and can dramatically increase the reach those donation dollars have year-after-year. If you are a non-profit that needs to register with the USPS, the application for this is Form 3624. This is a great place to start to see if your non-profit is eligible, and we can help you move forward from there, including direction on how to fill out the form, the time it takes to receive authorization, and so much more.

Additionally, the Post Office offers promotions throughout the year that decrease the overall price of postage. These promotions vary widely, but could include catalog, tactile and sensory, and continuous contact promotions. They also have add-on incentives which include sustainability and informed delivery. The 2026 Promotions Guidebook is a helpful tool to give you the basic knowledge of these promotions.

Classes of Mail

The United States Post Office divides mail into different classes, which serve different purposes and have different features. We work with both letter and flat categories, but for purposes below, we will discuss the letter classifications more in depth.

Regular First Class Mail

Typically a letter you may send to a relative, a bill or invoice, etc. In 2026, the rate for one of these to mail is $.82 if under 1 oz.

Metered First Class Mail

Very similar to regular first class, but you must have a meter machine. The rate on these is $.78 if under 1 oz.

Presorted First Class Mail

200+ pieces, bulk rates apply, bills, statements, and invoices MUST be sent first class. Prices vary based on 5-digit, 3-digit, or MXD from $.621 – $.707 in 2026 and pieces can weigh more than 1 oz.

Presorted Standard - or Marketing - Mail

200+ pieces, bulk rates apply, typically for political mail, direct mail from businesses and companies. Prices vary based on 5-digit, 3-digit, or MXD from $.395 – $.467. Pieces can weigh over 1 oz.

Non-Profit Standard Mail

MAJOR discounts. 200+ pieces, bulk rates apply, typically for registered non-profits with the USPS, but not all non-profits qualify, such as chambers of commerce. Prices vary based on 5-digit, 3-digit, or MXD from $.164 – $.257. Pieces can weigh over 1 oz.

Keep in mind rates change on a yearly basis, and sometimes even twice in one year. If you’re ready to learn more about postage discounts? Contact us here to start the process!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which class of mail I should choose?

Certain types of mail – such as bills – must be mailed first class. However, many other mail pieces can be mailed at the standard mail rates, which are much lower. It depends on what you’re mailing and the speed you need it to get there.

I'm a non-profit, but I don't know if I am registered with the United States Post Office. How do I find out?

The easiest way to find out if you are a registered non-profit with the USPS is to call or stop in at your local post office. If you can provide the information on your non-profit and that you are affiliated with it, they should be able to get you the information. We can also guide you in the correct steps to take, so feel free to contact us via form, email, or phone call.

How do I find out what rates I would get for my mailer?

If you already know which class you will be mailing under, that’s a great start. Is your mailer over 200 pieces and identical in shape? You should definitely be receiving postage discounts. We can give you a quote on postage costs with this information. If you are ready to send out and need specific amounts, we can run your mail list through our presort software to find discounts and rates.
