3PL – also known as third-party logistics – is an effective way to grow your business without necessarily growing the number of employees you need to have within the business. Centrally located in Davenport, Iowa within the U.S., PSS Mailing Solutions works with numerous companies located in different areas of the United States (including locally), to handle their logistical needs. We can work with both large and small businesses by warehousing products, picking orders, repackaging orders, and even assembling products together. We have a wide range of capabilities and work together with our clients to come up with solutions to fix possible shipping or housing issues.
Warehouse Space
Often companies start off very small out of extra space at someone’s home. These then overflow into the garage or a storage unit. Over time and hopefully an influx of orders, the everyday task of getting orders put together in a small space becomes the focus of the owner or few employees, which we know is not the most valuable use of your time. We would love to step in to help.
We have warehouse space to store the products and also the people to go out to pick the products for orders as they come in. We typically pick orders every day, Monday through Friday. We print off an orders list to begin, head to the warehouse to pick the correct items on the list, separate into the different orders, package up (according to our client’s wishes) and send out via Fed-Ex, UPS, or the USPS. We try to find our clients the best shipping method per product line, as weight, dimensions, and other aspects factor into the overall cost of shipping.
Predictable Logistics Cost
One aspect of working with a third-party logistics company that may not be on the forefront of your mind is that the cost of logistics is pretty predictable. There is a set cost for every aspect of the process. The price for storage of products, handling, fulfillment, and even shipment can stay set over the course of time for the number of pallets or pieces stored as well as picked. When using your own storage facility (or garage), there will be times that you are overloaded with products; however, since we have warehouse space, we can accept entire truck shipments of products and have space to house said products for weeks or months at a time as the products are purchased from customers.
In addition to the cost of storage, we also have space for different sizes of boxes and packaging material that is easy to access. You may have a client order one product, or you may have a client order twenty-two products. We have different sized materials to keep those shipments altogether, saving you on shipping costs (both for oversized packaging or needing to use multiple packages for larger shipments if completing yourself).
Complexity of Logistics
Often when a business is starting to really grow, the logistics of the growth can be difficult to navigate. Now, instead of having just two products that you send out, you have ten, so now you need space and inventory for all ten products. Instead of having fifty orders every week, you have two hundred fifty of varying products, weights, box sizes, etc. We are capable of figuring out your different needs for you because we work with different shipping companies and software to find the most reasonable costs for the best shipping.
